Here is what we've been up to lately!
Took my first campaign trip up to Raleigh for the Lillian's List Legislative Lunch. It was conducted "speed dating" style where current female legislators moved from table to table to talk to other women who wanted to learn something new about North Carolina government or ask them questions about important issues. I met Sen. Lisa Grafstein, Rep. Rosa Gill, Re. Renee Price, Rep. Julie Von Heaven, Rep. Ashton Clemmons.
The Mecklenburg County Democratic Convention was via Zoom this year, but there was a great meet & greet beforehand at Reeder Memorial Baptist Church. I was joined by the Janice Robinson, NC Chair of Red, Wine & Blue and the newly elected Chair of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party, Drew Kromer. We had an extra special visitor too - Future Voter - Marley!
It was a joyous occasion when we celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new Davidson Town Hall and Community Center.
Lisa attended the Woman's Leadership Conference at Davidson College. She participated in great break out sessions that talked about birth equity, gender based violence and Black Breastfeeding Week.
CMS School Board meetings can be contentious and filled with partisan speakers. Lisa focused on teacher retention and student mental health services.
Lisa joined the Charlotte World Affairs Council and Bank of America to celebrate International Woman's Day. The women's panel discussed women's equity and equality.
Mecklenburg County Democratic Party hosts the yearly Big Blue Breakfast. One of the guests of honor was North Carolina Democratic Party Chair, Anderson Clayton. As a State Executive Committee member, Lisa was thrilled to have voted for Anderson, because of her exceptional energy and strategic plans to strengthen the party.
As Vice Chair of Democrats of North Mecklenburg, Lisa created and orchestrates the Blue Ballon Day Events and the Davidson Wine Company Fundraiser.
Lisa and her husband Jerry entered in the Chili Contest at Crafty Beer Guys in Huntersville. She of course made patriotic Apple Pie Chili. The secret ingredients were bacon, apples, cinnamon and smoked paprika!
Doing some formal paperwork to create The Committee to Elect Lisa Jewel at the Board of Elections with Tracy Ditizio, Campaign Treasurer. We had an excellent day! So proud and grateful to her for the amazing work!
What a glorious day it was celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in uptown Charlotte! It was great to march with the delegation from the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party.
Lisa was ready spread the news about her campaign by organizing a non-partisan donation drive for the Charlotte USO. Her and her volunteers knocked on over 180 doors! Her team was able to assemble over a months worth of food and toiletries to help active duty personnel and veterans as they come in and out of the Charlotte USO Reception Center
Lisa announced her candidacy for North Carolina House of Representatives on January 10, 2023 at a meeting of the North Mecklenburg Progressives. She brought her husband Jerry and daughter Jackie with her to share the good news!
